Using a Single Switch with O(M) Inputs/Outputs for the Construction of an Optical Priority Queue with O(M3) Buffer

چکیده
In this paper, we consider the construction of an optical priority queue with a single (M + 1) × (M + 1) switch and M fiber delay lines. The M fiber delay lines are connected from M outputs of the switch back to M inputs of the switch, leaving one input (resp. output) of the switch for the input (resp. output) of the priority queue. It was known in [8][9] that with an appropriate choice of the lengths of the delay lines, such a construction can be used for exact emulation of an optical priority queue with O(M) buffer size. In this paper, we show that the buffer size can be further extended to O(M) using the same construction. The improvement relies on establishing a partial ordering for all the packets stored in the delay lines.

Exact emulation of a priority queue with a switch and delay lines
All-optical packet switched networking is hampered by the problem of realizing viable queues for optical packets. Packets can be buffered in delay lines, but delay lines do not functionally emulate queues from an input-output point of view. In this paper we consider the problem of exact emulation of a priority queue of size K using a switching system comprised of a switch of size (M +1)× (M +1)...

متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Prioritized Bu er Management in Photonic Packet Switches for Di Serv Assured Forwarding
We investigated the photonic packet switch architecture that enables a high node throughput and provides priority services. Previously, we proposed PBSO (partial buffer sharing with overwriting) method that enables prioritized buffer management to control an optical buffer [1]. The PBSO method is based on a single queue and its complexity is O p , where p is the number of priority classes. PBSO...
متن کاملPhotonic Buffer Architecture to Support Prioritized Buffermanagement for Asynchronously Arriving Variable Length Packets
We study photonic packet switching architecture that enables high node throughput and provides priority services. While an ultra-high-speed address-lookup capability can be realized in the optical domain for a photonic packet switch, the optical buffer must be managed in the electrical domain. In this paper, we propose a photonic buffer architecture that can support prioritized buffer managemen...
متن کاملPacket Loss and Delay Performance of Feedback and Feed-Forward Arrayed-Waveguide Gratings-Based Optical Packet Switches With WDM Inputs–Outputs
This paper analyzes the packet loss and delay performance of an arrayed-waveguide-grating-based (AWG) optical packet switch developed within the EPSRC-funded project WASPNET (wavelength switched packet network). Two node designs are proposed based on feedback and feed-forward strategies, using sharing among multiple wavelengths to assist in contention resolution. The feedback configuration allo...
